Knitted edging

EDGING WITH FLOWERS AND FANS

This pattern is a translation of one found in the German publication "Beyer-Band 167", published by Verlag Otto Beyer.

ABBREVIATIONS:

SL = slip
P = purl
K = knit
K1M1 = knit twice into 1 stitch (usually done by knitting into front and back loop of stitch)
K2TOG = knit 2 together
K5TOG = knit 5 together
SKP = slip 1, knit 1, pass slipped stitches over
SK2P = slip 1, knit 2 together, pass slipped stitch over
YO = yarn over
2YO = yarn over, but work 2 stitches into this yarn over on the next round
()x = knit text in brackets as many times as indicated after the "x"
[]x = repeat enclosed instructions as many times as indicated after the "x"

Where nothing else is indicated: K1, P1 into a double yarn over from previous row.

Edging is knitted widthwise.

The original was knitted in crochet thread sizes 50 and 100 on steel needles size 7.

Cast on a number of stitches divisable by 21+8 (minimum 50) with the heavy thread.

Finish with 3 rows of crocheted loops:

Start with 4 stitches together with a double/single crochet, then continue with *10 chain, 3 stitches together with a dc/sc*, except in between the fan shapes where you crochet 5 stitches together. Do another 2 rows of 1 dc/sc in each loop from previous row, putting 10 chain in between.
